The NY Times has an article about Canadian researchers who are trying to develop exercise protocols that maximize health benefits while minimizing the time requirement. They have developed a high intensity interval training technique that takes 20 mins twice a week, and only half of that time is spent doing the high intensity work. And it shows significant improvements similar to longer endurance based exercise.
